The maritime industry is very complex with many different moving parts that have to all be in sync for the system to work as a whole entity. One of the important pieces of that industry are marine exchanges. One of the challenges of operating in our modern logistics systems is to understand all the linkages and true interdependencies that have evolved. Marine exchanges are part of that system and knowing their function can help us all better understand the system itself.

A key player in the maritime industry comes in the form of Marine Exchanges that provide a variety of services to a wide assortment of maritime organizations. The Marine Exchange of Puget Sound is one of them. In this podcast we hear from Patrick Gallagher, Executive Director of the Marine Exchange of Puget Sound and a retired Coast Guard Commander with over 25 years of maritime experience. His experience in the maritime industry is extensive. Today he is the Chair of the Puget Sound Harbor Safety Committee, serves on the board of the Washington Maritime Federation, and represents maritime industry for the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary. All of “landlubbers” can learn a thing or two about how marine exchanges are a key link in the maritime industry. As an aside, Patrick is deeply committed to ocean conservation while promoting the future of maritime industry.
