Disaster Zone Podcast: ‘Using Emergency Management Interns’

An untapped resource available to agencies.

I’ve had interns in the past and found them to be a great resource. In this podcast we hear from both a local director who sought and employed interns and then from the interns themselves about their experiences.

Listen to the podcast and then think about how you might be able to leverage this resource for your agency and community. Here’s a link: Disaster Zone podcast: “Using Emergency Management Interns.”

Podcast description:

“The City of Tacoma Office of Emergency Management is led by Tieka Adeogun. Tieka, having been an emergency management intern herself in several different positions, hired two staff, Arianna Topbjerg and Caleb Collins as interns using them to help accomplish the various missions of her office and the emergency management program. We learn from this director why and how she uses interns and the benefits of internships to the agency and to the interns themselves. We also hear from the two interns about their experiences in getting hired and the advantages that come from serving as an intern.”
Eric Holdeman is a contributing writer for Emergency Management magazine and is the former director of the King County, Wash., Office of Emergency Management.
