Yesterday SpaceX had a successful launch of a Falcon 9 Rocket. What is significant about that was that the payload is headed to deep space to provide early warning of solar storms of the type that would emanate an EMP.

Neil Clement shared the above links and also added this comment, "Often the authors [speaking about books he has read on the topic of EMP] have strongly made the point that even though the threat is well documented, Congress has failed to address the problem by funding hardening solutions. Unfortunately, the most comprehensive congressional report on EMP was apparently issued at about the same time as the 9/11 Report and so it failed to get the attention that the subject deserved."
I don't know if this is the report that Neil referred to, but it highlights the risks and some of the actions that could be taken now to help mitigate the impacts of an attack on the United States. Remember an EMP could come from a nation or naturally from the sun.
