Earthquakes Are a National Risk

Don't be thinking that earthquakes only happen in California.

I grew up thinking that earthquakes only happened in California and that volcanoes must be on an island somewhere or in Italy. This is what uninformed people think about hazards that are low frequency, but can be high risk.

What made me think about this was a comment from a "national-level Department of Homeland Security (DHS) staffer" about how earthquakes were only a "West Coast hazard." For your viewing and hopefully others who are perhaps "not well-informed" even though they work "in the business," see the link and the map below.

Don't let the 10,000 year number make you dismissive of the risk. Anything can happen, at any time!
