Emergency Management Magazine

I really like Emergency Management Magazine. They have quality articles, the publication looks great and they are genuinely looking to share information with our community that is timely, relevant and engaging. I'm told that their circulation of the print edition is now up around 40,000 copies. You can get a free print edition sent to you by subscribing on line.

That said, you can see their Special Issue on case studies. Yes, Ann Patton and I collaborated on one article on Project Impact, a former federal program that focused on mitigation. No, there is no Eric's Corner column in this edition. I ended up on the cutting floor (or whatever the right wording is for not being included in the edition). Ink and paper costs money!

This morning while riding the exercise bike I read Melding the Volunteer, an article about California's relatively new approach to managing volunteers and the establishment of a cabinet level position (remember I blogged on how New Jersey has also done this). These two states are setting themselves up to be ahead of the curve when the Obama Administration launches a new volunteer effort for citizens.
