I'm guessing that the discussion about what emergency management is and does and the differences and similarities to homeland security will go on until the current generation of emergency managers dies out.

The latest item I read on it comes from my sister blogger at Emergency Management Magazine, Valerie Lucus. She did a recent posting on Is There Really A Difference Between 'Emergency Management' and 'Homeland Security'? There are some thoughtful ideas bantered about in the posting.

Or, if you are tired of the debate, don't read it and just start building relationships where you can find them and try to ignore the semantics that causes people and organizations to repel one another rather than come together to build something that lasts.

Whatever you do, don't fight over the grant money. The conflict and ill will is not worth the funding.
