FEMA: David Kaufman Interview on the Strategic Foresight Initiative (SFI).

This is a good interview to read and get some insight to what FEMA sees coming in the future.

My latest interview is up and posted at Emergency Management Magazines website.  See FEMA’s David Kaufman Addresses Emergency Management Trends

This is a pretty wide-ranging interview on a number of different topics associated with where the profession of emergency management is headed.  One of the things I appreciated about David's comments is his understanding of the speed of change that we are facing today and into a very uncertain future.

Imagine five years ago to an era that was before smart phones and iPads.  How could anyone have imagined the impact these devices would have on how people find and share information?  It has been huge and will get bigger with time.  Back in the day if someone said "application" to me I would have thought they were applying for a job or a grant.  Now today there are over 100M smart phones in the USA alone and the estimate is that 500K people are involved with smart phone and tablet application development.

I'm thinking we should bury a time capsule with predictions for the future and then open it up (ten years from now) to see what has come true and what giant leaps have eclipsed our thinking, or events have driven us in new directions.
