In case you have lived in a bubble for about a month and don’t understand that the “haze in the air” in Chicago, New York or Washington, D.C., it is primarily coming from a fire burning on the other side of the continent — in Oregon!
Check out their Wildfire Response and Recovery website. It is a great example of the type of information you need to have booked on your website ready to put up and updated when it comes your state or jurisdiction’s turn to burn.
Another terrific resource for people impacted by fires is The Red Guide to Recovery - Resource Handbook for Disaster Survivors. States and localities have purchased quantities of these books for their citizens. They can be personalized with your agency or community logos and the book has excellent information for people who have lost everything. Even better, it would help they had the information in order to be prepared for a fire.
For more information on the above and to hear directly from the author Sean Scott, check out this Disaster Zone TV program: “Homes Destroyed by Disasters.”
