How Pete Gaynor Ended Up as DHS Secretary (Acting)

The published line of success does mean something after all.

(Monday, Jan. 18)

Maybe you have been wondering how Pete Gaynor, the lawfully and permanently appointed Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) administrator, ended up being the acting Department of Homeland Security (DHS) secretary ever since Chad Wolf, the previous acting DHS secretary, resigned.

The Providence Journal, a home paper for Gaynor, has an explanation — sort of. It is a web of appointments to follow: "How Gaynor became the last man standing at Homeland Security."

Claire Rubin, who shared the link above, admitted that she got lost somewhere in the mix of temporary/acting appointees. Then of course, there is the law of the land that ideally is followed, but maybe not always.

Bottom line: as of this writing, Pete has two more days to be acting DHS secretary.

All of the above reminds me of the Abbott and Costello "Who's on First" comedy routine. Worth watching if you are too young to have seen it previously.
