Hummingbird Drones

A great example of the drone/UAV industry that is developing.

Eventually there will likely be a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle)/UAS (unmanned aircraft system)/drone company in every city in North America. The benefits of using the tool will be as evident as the nose on your face. Rules, regulations, etc., will have to catch up for this to happen, but eventually — they will.

Check out one such company that is operating now in British Columbia, Hummingbird Drones. They already have added value to several applications that impact emergency managers. One being wildland fires and being able to spot "hot spots" using thermal imaging. The same technology has also helped in locating missing people as part of a larger search and rescue effort.

You might do a Google search to see if there is a company already operating in your town, or one nearby.

And, I expect that search and rescue volunteer groups are already adding this technology to their menu of services that they provide. Just think search and rescue via 4x4, horseback, mountain rescue, ground search and, soon — if not already — drones.
