Leadership Quotes — with Commentary

Quotes sometimes succinctly say what you are thinking.

I find quotes from leaders past and present helpful in framing thoughtful leadership principles. See this website, Aspire to Be Great: Most Inspiring Leadership Quotes of All Time. Today I took note of their No. 8, below:

“The challenge of leadership is to be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not bully; be thoughtful, but not lazy; be humble, but not timid; be proud, but not arrogant; have humor, but without folly.” — Jim Rohn

Right on, Jim Rohn! This does not mean you are mealy mouthed in your speech or actions, but you can be humble without being timid or overly aggressive in your manners.  I would also note that Senator John McCain was known to have personality opposites at times. In the last couple of days I've heard more than one reporter comment about how he had called them a day or two later after lambasting them for such and such to apologize. Real leaders admit their mistakes to themselves and to others.
