Microsoft Surface Laptop and Surface Pro 4

Although getting out of the device market, they seem to be expanding.

It was almost a year ago that I took my Surface Pro 3 back to Microsoft and asked to trade it in for a Lenovo Laptop, which I'm typing on now. Not to be deterred, earlier this year when I figured it was time to replace my wife's seven-year-old laptop, we got her a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 -- which has been working fine and lives in our kitchen.

Microsoft, buoyed by the strong sales of Surface devices (you can see them all over the place on Sunday National Football League games) is dipping their toes in the laptop market.

Today I got the email announcing the availability of Surface laptops, which you can pre-order starting today. These machines start at $1,500 and run up to $3,200 for more memory, storage and processor speed. By today's laptop prices, it seems a bit pricey to me. I think I spent around $1,300 for my Surface Pro 3 and about the same for the Yoga model ThinkPad.

And, I noted that there is a Surface Pro 4 now that you can buy for between $900 and $1,500.

Things must be going swimmingly for Microsoft's CEO. His annual salary is around $86M. If he can eliminate any more verbal gaffes about how women should behave in the workplace, it is looking pretty rosy for now.
