National Homeland Security Conference

At the price and location — I won't be going.

The annual Homeland Security Conference registration is now live.

The early bird rate is $625 until May 1. This price tag, early bird or not, plus being in New York City, will make this an expensive one to attend. That, plus the money available from Homeland Security Grants is way down, and it was the federal funds that enabled emergency managers to attend in the past.

There are cheaper places than NYC to hold a government (primarily) conference!

These are the different advertised conference tracks:

• Counterterrorism — Protecting the Homeland
• Critical Infrastructure (including health, ports and transit)
• Cybersecurity
• Empowering Partners for the Shifting Landscape
• Grants Management
• Hometown Security
• Intelligence and Information Sharing
• Public-Private Partnerships
• Recent Events
• Training and Exercise
• Homeland Security Research (NEW TRACK for 2018)

First time I've seen a conference like this one have a track for HLS Research. Typically I've only seen that at the Natural Hazards Workshop that is held every summer and has a significant bent toward research and findings.
