National Risk Index Under Fire

The index is only as good as the data.

This is a really long Politico article that speaks to FEMA’s National Risk Index and its validity to be used in conjunction with funding grants. See this:
It’s Only a Matter of Time Before a Tsunami Hits the Northwest. Why Is It Missing from FEMA’s Risk Analysis?

The article appears to be well done with a great deal of research and interviews feeding the narrative provided. It highlights the challenges of having a “national-level” risk index. Perhaps this is a place that artificial intelligence will have a meaningful impact for the positive in the future.

While it is long, don’t give up on reading it. There is good information and perspective provided. It is a positive example of how journalism can shine a light on government policy today.
