New Zealand Earthquake

New Zealand hit again with a major earthquake

Perhaps the only saving grace of this latest earthquake was the location of the epicenter and that people were not out and about at the time of the event. See this BBC report, New Zealand earthquake: Two dead following powerful tremor.

This latest tremor is sure to jangle the nerves of New Zealanders. This is now three significant earthquakes in about six or seven years. The second one in 2011 was the most devastating, but all this ground shaking over time will cause sleepless nights for some people, who are waiting for the ground to shake again.

I would point you to the Ring of Fire map in the linked story. About the only segment that has not ruptured in recent memory is in North America.  Our turn is coming, eventually.
