No-Battery Phones

Wireless charging is next; how about no charging?

I am waiting for the expected "next edition" iPhone to come out sometime this fall. Depending on the features, I'll decide if I want to upgrade now or wait another two years. One possible upgrade for the next edition of the iPhone is cordless charging. No plugging into power, just sit the phone on or near a charging device. That would be nice, but likely not enough in itself to make a switch and the financial outlay.

But what if you never had to charge your phone?  Check out Researchers Develop A Cell Phone That Works Without A Battery. I've heard of the backscatter technology before, but not a successful test of the capability. I keep saying what is needed is a breakthrough in battery technology. This isn't that, but it is the type of work being done to eliminate the battery as a necessary evil. I am sure that millennials will tell their grandkids about how they had to recharge their phones (what we called communications devices way back when) once a day and now, it is once a month or perhaps — never!
