Hunch is a good word though. It is the hunch that tells you to investigate an issue. A hunch to check on a system that could fail, and sure enough it was about to fail or failing when you check on it.
Hunches can come at any time, but I think with age and experience you develop an inventory of ideas and concepts that you have found to be true in the past—and, therefore likely to be true in the future.
When you get a nagging feeling that something could be done differently or in our emergency management business, that something could go wrong, follow the hunch and check it out. Hunches can pay off big time in the long run!
