Quote: Winning doesn't always mean you cross the finish line first

Those afraid of losing will never risk much.

“There is no dishonor in losing the race. There is only dishonor in not racing because you are afraid to lose.”   Garth Stein  It has been ten days since I lost my Port of Tacoma Commissioner’s race.

In the beginning my political consultant told me, “You are running against an incumbent, you will probably lose.”  Just before the actual election, five months later I asked his assessment at that point.  He said, “You are running against an incumbent, you will probably not win.”  I guess it is the “glass half full, half empty—glass half full” perception of reality.

To succumb to the belief that once someone is in elected office they cannot be beaten in an election is to let the status quo run forever.  That premise I willnot accept.

Personally I grew in my understanding of the electoral process and also what it takes to put yourself into the public light and be able to articulate your ideas so that you can be understood and also not be misunderstood.

I gave it my all and my best effort.  It is what I expect of others who have worked for me.  If we get that, what more can we expect?
