Seattle Natural Hazards Map

This is for everyone -- the 'know your risks and ignore them' map!

The first thing we promote as emergency managers is to know your hazards and then measure your risk tolerance. Generally people don't think about hazards at all when they go to relocate or buy property. It's a trait I've written about before.

The Seattle Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has come up with a nifty online tool to let businesses and citizens see a selection of hazards laid out on a map of the city. Check out Seattle Natural Hazard Explorer

Today, with all the rain we have been having, I'd be checking out the areas of the city with the most landslide risk. The red dots show were there have been landslides before. The city of Seattle has been recording the location of landslides for about 100 years, so there should be few surprises.

I've got a blog post coming up on the current landslide risk in the Pacific NW, and I reference Perkins Lane in Seattle which is hard to see "since it is in all that yellow area." But hey, "Look at the view they have!"

Matt Auflick shared the link. Nice job, Seattle OEM!
