The Fallout from Smoke and Fires in Canada

Canada expected to create a disaster agency.

Big disasters have a way of making governments and other organizations sit up and take notice for what is going on and maybe think about taking actions to address the problem.

That is what is happening in Canada right now. The prime minister remarked recently that they are investigating establishing a disaster agency. No, Canada does not already have a FEMA-like agency.

The form and function of such an agency is yet to be seen. Cloning FEMA is likely not the best idea. We’ll have to see what they come up with. Certainly, it won’t be just about wildfires, since Canada does have a well-established wildfire fighting capability.
