Understanding Electronic Civil Disobedience (ECD)

Electronic Civil Dsiobedience (ECD) is another "hazard" you should be aware of and understand.

Just when you thought you pretty much understood the full gamut of hazards--I've got another one for you.  Electronic Civil Disobedience (ECD) could be lumped under the larger category of Cyber Terrorism, but I don't think it fits there any more than a protester fits under the category of rioter.  Sometimes though it could be a thin line, I'll admit that.

In order to understand a hazard you have to know how it operates.  I thought about this next piece for a couple of days.  By writing about it am I promoting its use by giving information to those who might do harm in the future.  Or, does the gain exist in that you have more information and understanding of how denial of service attacks work.  I figure someone who wants to do harm can find the information elsewhere so I came down on the side of getting information into your hands (really heads).

See How to Plan and Execute an act of Electronic Civil Disobedience (ECD) for some basic information on how a denial of service attack can be orchestrated.  There is a PDF at the link above.

Later today I'll comment more on cyber terrorism in another blog post.
