Using Drones to Inspect the Inside of Ships

Marine inspections are routine. When your base is a floating foothold on the ocean, everything has to work correctly.

I came across this piece,Bureau Veritas joins the RECOMMS* drones project developing capability for the survey and inspection of steel structures in enclosed spaces. Basically, the inside of cargo holds on large ships carrying bulk cargo. 

Flying inside a steel enclosure will require much more skill without GPS stabilization. But, it is going to be much faster and cheaper than hiring raft and rope access specialists. The drones are using technology beyond a camera. One tool is ultrasonic thickness measurements (UTM) to assess the steel hulls.
