When Does Hurricane Season Start?

We may have to adjust the calendar.

Tropical Storm Alberto is moving slowly in the Gulf of Mexico (at the time I'm writing this blog) for the mainland, with Florida, Alabama and Mississippi all bracing for wind and rain. With the "official start" of the hurricane season about a week away, it is good to remember that these dates are man's attempt to put artificial boundaries on when things might happen. The same goes for the end as it does the beginning of the season.

With a warming planet, it could be that the calendar will need some date changes in the coming years. An earlier start and and later ending. We'll see!
