(TNS) — Police, firefighters and ambulance personnel in the Norwin area — Irwin, North Huntingdon and North Irwin — will join forces for National Night Out from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 6 at Excela Square at Norwin, Route 30, North Huntingdon.

Fire trucks from all seven of North Huntingdon’s volunteer fire departments, as well as the Irwin and North Irwin fire departments will participate, in addition to the Irwin and North Huntingdon police departments and Irwin and North Huntingdon’s ambulance services, according to North Huntingdon Police Chief Robert Rizzo.

National Night Out is an annual effort on the first Tuesday in August to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement, while bringing back a true sense of community, according to the National Night Out website. It provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

“This is the first Norwin community event for National Night Out,” said Shari Martino, Irwin Borough acting manager who has worked with Rizzo in organizing the event.

A police K-9 demonstration is planned for 8 p.m., Rizzo said.

North Huntingdon police will be available to fingerprint children for identification purposes, Rizzo said.

North Huntingdon EMS/Rescue will bring their rescue boats and other specialized equipment for the public to see, Martino said.

Youngsters will get to see the fire trucks and other emergency equipment, Martino said.

“We think it is going to be educational,” she added.

Excela Health, which has its Excela Square at Norwin medical facility, also will participate, the chief said.

The Norwin-area event is one of many happening throughout the region.
