"There are people in our community who are quietly and humbly doing amazing things to help others and these are the people we want to highlight and honor," said Lyn Hruska, CEO of the American Red Cross Central and Southern Illinois Region. "Their actions make our community a better and safer place to live, which embodies our mission at the Red Cross."
Last year's Saluting Our Heroes event was attended by 540 people. Traditionally, Central Illinoisans are honored in the following categories: Public Service, Good Samaritan, Paula R. Walsh Volunteer, Health and Safety, Youth, Armed Forces, Ambassador and Volunteer. In addition, the WJBC Don Munson Spirit of McLean County Award is presented during the event.
