Evan Schumann to Lead the Ohio Emergency Management Agency

He brings urban search and rescue experience to the role.

The Ohio Emergency Management Agency got a new leader on Jan. 9. Evan Schumann was named the agency’s executive director, bringing experience from the response to previous emergencies including last year’s mudslide in Washington state as well as hurricanes Katrina and Sandy.

Schumann previously held the role of program manager for Ohio Task Force 1, an urban search and rescue task force that’s included in FEMA’s national system.

“The state of Ohio is fortunate to be able to find an emergency management professional with Mr. Schumann’s qualifications here in our own state,” said John Born, director of the state’s Public Safety Department, in a statement. “I look forward to working with him to make the state safer for all Ohioans.”

Schumann will replace the agency’s interim director, Sima Merick.
