On Wednesday, state police announced the total number of tickets issued for the holiday enforcement period which began November 26 and ran through Sunday, November 30. The annual holiday enforcement effort is funded through the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
State Police Troop G, which covers the Capital Region, including Warren and Washington counties, issued 1,144 of the 13,036 tickets. Of the 1,144 tickets issued in the Capital Region, 37 were for DWI arrests, 361 for speeding, 25 for distracted driving, 42 for seat belt and child restraint violations, and 21 for move over violations; the remaining were for other violations.
Throughout the campaign, troopers conducted sobriety checkpoints, deployed additional DWI patrols, and ticketed drivers who were using handheld electronic devices. Troopers arrested a total of 247 people for DWI throughout the state and investigated 1,277 crashes, including two fatal crashes statewide.
“Every year there are preventable tragedies, and a wake of victims left behind because of the decisions made by reckless and impaired drivers,” said New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James in a statement ahead of the holiday enforcement period.”
During the 2024 Thanksgiving holiday enforcement, state police issued 12,867 total tickets and arrested 259 people for DWI throughout the state.
