Anchorage, Ala., Mayor Appoints New Director of Health Department

Diane Ingle to take over next month.

Mayor Mark Begich has appointed a new director of the Anchorage Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to guide the department through the implementation of its newly-developed strategic plan.

Current Deputy Director Diane Ingle will replace Beverly Wooley, who has accepted an appointment as Director of the Division of Public Health in the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services.

"I am pleased to have such a qualified professional as Diane Ingle take over the reins of the Department of Health and Human Services," Begich said. "Diane has a solid understanding of the issues surrounding public health, the drive to lead Anchorage in tackling tough public health problems, and the management background needed to unite a large and diverse workforce in pursuing these public health goals.

Ingle was with the Alaska Division of Public Health for 20 years before moving to DHHS in 2004 to manage the Community Health Services Division. In her role as Community Health Services Division Manager she had a staff of 65 and a budget of approximately six million dollars.

In October 2006, Ingle accepted the position as Deputy Director for the DHHS where she is responsible for the application and management of numerous state and federal grants and oversees all of the administrative functions of the department including a budget of more than $30 million and the management of the grants and contracts section which administers grants and contracts in excess of seven million dollars.

The Anchorage Department of Health and Human Services provides public health services to all residents of Anchorage. Programs administered by the Department include the following:

  • Health Planning and Preparedness
  • Disease Prevention and Control
  • Air Quality

  • Reproductive Health Clinic
  • Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance
DHHS has 165 employees and an annual budget of $25 million. Ingle begins work as director on Monday August 13.
