Brooklyn Public Library, NYC Human Resources to Receive Best of New York Awards

Eight of New York's most innovative, tech-savvy state and local government leaders and agencies have been selected by the Center for Digital Government and Government Technology to receive their prestigious Best of New York award, an annual award program that recognizes excellence and outstanding contributions in the area of information technology.

Award recipients were selected from entries to the 2005 Best of New York Awards Program. Entries were divided into two categories: Leadership and Project Excellence. Final selections were made based on criteria that included collaboration between agencies, innovative use of technology and the improvement of services to citizens or government employees.

"The Best of New York awards symbolize excellence in technology innovations and leadership," said Cathilea Robinett, executive director of the Center. "Excellence is what all of our recipients have strived for and achieved. It is an honor for us to acknowledge their work and the advanced services they provide to citizens every day."

The following Best of New York award recipients will be honored by the Center and Government Technology at a formal awards ceremony hosted by GTC on June 23:

Demonstrated Excellence in Advancing Technology to Satisfy Business Objectives:

• Kelly Smith-Lawless, Clean Air Program Manager, DMV, New York Vehicle Inspection Program
• James Clyne, Environmental Engineer, DEC, New York Vehicle Inspection Program

Best Application Serving the Public:

• ABC (Access Brooklyn Card) Public PC Reservation and Print Management Project, Brooklyn Public Library
• Digital Towpath Project. SUNY IT Institute for Local Government/Northern Oneida County Council of Governments/Northern Publishing Inc.

Best Application Serving a Department or Agency's Business Needs:

• ALERTS, NYC Human Resources Administration: Office of Revenue and Investigations; Systems Development
• Adult Services Automated Projects (ASAP), NYS Office of Children and Family Services

Best IT Collaboration Among Organizations:

• Human Services Enterprise Network (HSEN) Exchange Upgrade, NYS Office for Technology

Most Innovative Use of Technology:

• Geographic Information Center (GIC), NYS Office of Children and Family Services
