At the meeting, Brailer will overview the work of the federal government to coordinate national health information technology efforts. "The nation's lieutenant governors will hear about biosurveillance, consumer empowerment, chronic care and electronic health records," said NLGA Director Julia Hurst. "Policymakers are working specifically on electronic medical records to improve care and access and reduce errors and cost in health care, an issue to serve constituents while helping 'the bottom line' for governments at every level."
Following Brailer's presentation, Kansas Lt. Governor John Moore will overview his state's efforts to implement and secure electronic medical records in one county's Medicaid population. Kansas has received two grants to advance this project. In conclusion, Dr. Steven Egge, a local physician, will detail practical obstacles that practitioner's face when actualizing use of electronic medical records.
