JASON Project Awards Texas Teacher Top Award

"Mrs. Plut is an exceptional teacher who creates a classroom environment that ignites a desire to learn in each of her students."

The JASON Foundation for Education has awarded the prestigious 2005 Hilda E. Taylor Teacher Award to Krystyna M. Plut, a science teacher at Holy Trinity Catholic School in Grapevine, Texas. Named in honor of a JASON teacher who perished on the plane that attacked the Pentagon on September 11, the award was given to Plut June 23 for instilling in students the thrill of exploration and discovery, using JASON's hands-on activities and multimedia technology.

"Mrs. Plut is an exceptional teacher who creates a classroom environment that ignites a desire to learn in each of her students," said Caleb M. Schutz, president of JASON Foundation for Education. "By using interactive technology, videos, the latest scientific research and hands-on experiments, she has demonstrated her superior ability to teach science and math through engaging lessons."

"JASON teaches me something new each year and makes it easy to be an enthusiastic teacher," Plut said. "JASON brings real-life science scenarios into the classroom, helping students to realize that science is not merely a subject in a textbook, but actually something they encounter on a daily basis in the environment around them."

As part of the award, Plut will be granted $1,000 for JASON activities in her classroom and will receive airfare, registration and hotel expenses for the JASON Conference in Dublin, Ohio, where she will participate in professional development sessions and share her successful teaching techniques with teachers from around the world.

"Mrs. Plut is one of our most dynamic teachers. Her lessons are exciting and creative," wrote Elizabeth Cohen, learning support coordinator of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
