Muhlenberg County, Ky. Storm Recovery Center Remains Open

Deadline extended to March 8, 2008.

A Disaster Recovery Center in Muhlenberg County that has been assisting victims of the tornadoes in early February will remain open until 6 p.m., March 8.  The center had previously been scheduled to close at 6 p.m. March 3, 2008.  The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management Agency (KYEM) jointly operate the center to help storm victims obtain federal grants and Small Business Administration loans for losses caused by the extreme weather Feb. 5-6.

"There have been many more visitors to the Muhlenberg County center than to centers that have been open in other counties," said KYEM's Charlie Winter, who is leading the commonwealth's recovery effort. "We're keeping this center open so that anyone else in the county who had losses from these bad storms will have a larger window of opportunity to talk in-person with experts who can help them."

The Muhlenberg Disaster Recovery Center is located at Muhlenberg Community Career Development Center, 50 Career Way (next to senior citizens building), Central City. It operates from 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. It closes Saturday, March 8.
