After more than a year with an interim chief information officer, the state of New York has named a full-time replacement in Angelo “Tony” Riddick, former CIO of the U.S. Virgin Islands, Riddick's
LinkedIn profile confirmed today.
Riddick is a retired U.S. Army colonel who spent 33 years in the service, including as a senior staff officer in the U.S. Army Cyber Command Headquarters, according to his LinkedIn profile. More recently he was CIO of the Virgin Islands from November 2016 to May 2019, where he oversaw
infrastructure recovery efforts after Hurricane Maria. Prior to that he was an independent cybersecurity consultant in Washington, D.C. He has also been a director of business development for cybersecurity at Ryan Consulting in Indianapolis, a commander for the Office of Security Cooperation in Iraq responsible for equipment installations and operational support, and a professor of systems management at National Defense University.
As New York state CIO, Riddick is taking over for
Jeremy Goldberg, who has been interim state CIO since November 2019 as well as deputy secretary for the Office of Information Technology Services (OITS) and the Office of General Services. New York’s last full CIO was Robert Samson, who
retired in August 2019. When Samson left, OITS extolled recent investments in cybersecurity, data consolidation and citizen-facing programs under his leadership.
