Las Vegas Embraces Open Government

City archives video from council meetings and makes it available on-demand

SIRE Technologies Inc., a leading provider of content and legislative management solutions for government entities, announced the City of Las Vegas has implemented SIRE Agenda Plus, which provides live and archived video together with agenda and document management services to improve efficiency and enable more public transparency with regard to the city council activities.

The city is now able to archive video from council meetings and make it available on-demand through the city's Web site: www.lasvegasnevada.gov. The video will be available within 24 hours of City Council meetings. At the conclusion of this project, citizens, businesses, the media and others can search council meeting agenda documents dating back to October 2004; users may also view individual video segments from the council meetings as well as read the backup documentation and the actual agenda item. Furthermore, Agenda Plus benefits the city clerk by streamlining the workflow process, saving time and taxpayer money.

"Early feedback has been very positive from citizens who have seen this in action," said City Clerk Roni Ronemus. "In the past, we were able to reach out to our constituents by offering online agendas and backup as well as live video of the meetings on our Web site. This feature allows us to go one step further, providing open access to our constituents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week."

The new program was designed for the needs of both the end user and the city in mind. Most features are available through a single click, making it customer oriented and convenient for the public. For the city, SIRE Agenda Plus enhances the three main components to the legislative process: pre-meeting activities such as agenda creation; meeting activities including taking minutes of the meeting; and post-meeting activities such as posting agendas with attachments, summaries, minutes and posting video to the Web.

"Las Vegas is taking their legislative management to the next level," said Kris Painter, President of SIRE Technologies. "The technology we and our partners have provided to Las Vegas serves some distinctly strategic purposes for the city. They are now empowered to better handle growth, create a more open environment, improve collaboration where necessary and provide more direct access to document and video archives of council and, in the next phase, planning meetings. The selection of Agenda Plus underscores the time-saving, economic value of our solution that is straightforward to install, maintain and expand."
