The platform provides accurate and fast employee access to intelligence-related content including news bulletins, operational policy guidelines, hints and tips, and lists of persistent offenders. In addition, the portal software enables authorized business users to rapidly publish and update site content without the need for specialist IT skills.
The Essex Police's legacy corporate intranet, featuring more than 80,000 Web pages across more than 80 independent sites, was extremely difficult for employees to navigate to find relevant information, and that existing content could be inconsistent, unreliable and outdated. Thus, the Essex Police required a new system that would act as not only a source of valid information but also a gateway to key business applications to meet its goal of establishing a one-stop business communications tool.
Essex Police selected the suite for its ability to provide a robust integrated content management and portal solution for information management and delivery. The solution's open standards-based architecture could integrate with existing systems while providing the scalability to support future needs while reducing costs.
"While our legacy intranet had been embraced by almost all employees, it was clear that it had become a victim of its own success. We found the system had over 80 individual intranet sites; therefore, finding accurate information had become increasingly difficult," said Sarah Gulliver, IT eSolutions manager, Essex Police. "In revamping the site it was important we consolidated information to ensure users relied on the intranet as the single source of truth with regard to policy documents and guidelines. Vignette has provided the ideal information management and delivery platform to give employees access to updated information they need when they need it, enabling them to be more productive while enabling us to make best use of systems we have in place."
