FCC Commisssioner Adelstein to Keynote APCO Symposium
Project LOCATE Wireless Deployment Challenges and Realities Symposium Nov. 15-16
Federal Communications Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein will open the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials International (APCO) Project LOCATE Wireless Deployment Challenges and Realities Symposium being held in Arlington, Va., November 15th and 16th. The purpose of the APCO International and Project LOCATE Wireless Deployment Challenges and Realities Symposium is to educate public safety answering point (PSAP) managers, wireless industry support personnel, and policy makers to achieve successful wireless enhanced 9-1-1 (E9-1-1) deployment. Currently, successful wireless E9-1-1 deployment from at least some carriers is reported from PSAPs serving only 40 percent of the U.S. population.
Adelstein has deemed E9-1-1 one of his and the FCC's highest priorities. He has been critical in the great strides the FCC has made in E9-1-1 by continuing to provide solid regulatory guidance, improving the FCC's level of collaboration with legislators on Capitol Hill, including the leadership of the Congressional E9-1-1 Caucus, and through FCC sponsored E9-1-1 Coordination Initiatives, which brought together state, local and national E9-1-1 stakeholders to discuss the progress and problems with E9-1-1 deployment.
