GAO Calls for Better Traffic Safety Data Delivery

Would result in significant investment in new reporting systems

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has released a report critical of the provision of traffic crash data called for by the US Department of Transportation. The US DOT provides grant funding to the states to collect and report this information.

The GAO is critical of the current way states report and the federal goverment funds the program, and calls for states to have an up-to-date assessment of their traffic data systems. This would result in significant investment in related recording and reporting systems.
