Missoui Gov. Matt Blunt yesterday announced 28 first responder agencies will receive new equipment through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CEDAP). The equipment will improve their capability and capacity to respond to emergencies and to work with other first responders, helping to improve public safety across the state.

"We must never underestimate the critical role local government has in fighting terrorism and responding to disasters of all kinds," Blunt said. "I am pleased more than two dozen Missouri first responder agencies will receive this state-of-the-art equipment and technical assistance which will improve public safety and help save lives."

The program is designed to assist local agencies that have not previously obtained the benefit of homeland security grants. In the last two years 95 first responder agencies in Missouri obtained equipment under this program.

The 28 Missouri first responder agencies that will receive equipment are: Atchison County Sheriff, Audrain Health Care, Bates County Sheriff, Benton County Sheriff, Carl Junction Police, Cherokee Pass Volunteer Fire Protection District in Fredericktown, Elsberry Police, Fulton Police, Oak Grove Police, Park Hills Police, Rolla Police, Webb City Police, Cooper County Fire Protection District, Dent County Sheriff, Hollister Police, Mexico Public Safety, Mineral Area College Public Safety in Park Hills, Neosho Police, Nevada Police, New London Police, Pemiscot County Sheriff, Phelps County Sheriff, Plattsburg Police, Rolla Rural Fire Protection District, St. Robert City Fire and Rescue, Tarkio Police, Town & Country Police, and Union Police.
