NYC to Manage Offender Population with Business Intelligence

Application allows agencies dealing with large populations to manage records and track movement

BURLINGTON, Mass. -- The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) will implement a business intelligence solution to report and analyze information in the data warehouse. With implementation of the new system, DOC, along with the New York City Department of Probation (DOP), will be able to better understand and track the inmate and probationer populations. The departments selected Cognos, a provider of enterprise business intelligence solutions and services.

"Going forward, business intelligence capabilities will be strategically important to DOC and DOP in understanding the offender populations under New York City supervision, and will increase our ability to share information with other criminal justice agencies," said Kael S.Goodman, Deputy Commissioner, CIO of both the New York City Department of Correction and the Department of Probation.

With annual inmate populations totaling 115,000 for the DOC and 70,000 probationers for the DOP, the ability to aggregate, analyze and report on critical data enables both agencies to have better manage their respective populations, as well as understand the overlapping population.
