New York City Council to Hold Hearing on NYCMap

The Committee on Technology in Government will consider strategies for preserving public safety while making GIS data more accessible to the public

New York City council's Committee on Technology in Government will hold a hearing entitled "Oversight: Releasing Geographic Information Systems Data -- Ensuring Security and Safety and Making Public Information Accessible" on Friday, January 28, 2005 at 10 A.M. in the City Hall Committee Room. The hearing will discuss what NYCMap is and why it is so important; the costs and benefits of making the service more accessible to the public, including possible policies to adopt that would make the data available while protecting public safety; and whether or not current licensing of the service is too restrictive. The Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications and members of New York City's GIS community are scheduled to testify, and the hearing is open to the public.
