"Emerging technology is providing additional means of protecting public safety, and we are pleased to work closely with Nassau County to help them utilize this technology to improve security," said Daniels. "I commend County Executive Suozzi, Commissioner Lawrence and emergency services personnel for their commitment to implementing an effective E911 system."
"Public safety must be a top priority at all levels of government, and New York State has a strong partner in Nassau County," Secretary Daniels said. "This State grant will build upon the county's efforts to provide comprehensive E911 services, to ensure that individuals who require emergency services can be located even if they can't relay their exact location."
"Our priority in Nassau County is always our resident's safety. This money will enable us to improve the technology so our dispatchers can pinpoint the location of a wireless caller and alert our first responders quickly," said County Executive Suozzi. "This grant is a terrific example of the State's commitment to partnering with local law enforcement to save lives."
Today's grant plus a previous grant of $5,998,324 under the State's Expedited Deployment Funding Program, Nassau County has now received $10,496,382 for computer equipment to upgrade its 911 system, including a computer-aided dispatch system. The upgrades will allow county 911 dispatchers to identify and pinpoint the location of wireless calls they receive.
