The Rochester Police Dept. is in the preliminary stages of implementing a video surveillance system designed to address problems with open air drug and prostitution markets, increase arrests and reduce serious crime. Representatives from the RPD are planning visits to Chicago and New York to determine the best practices for deployment of the project in Rochester.
The city will use crime data analysis and community input to determine exactly where the cameras should be placed. The funding provided by Robach will provide for additional cameras in the La Marketa neighborhood. The RPD, NET, neighborhood associations, the faith community, local residents and businesses have all made recommendations to improve safety in the area. Other areas around the city are also included in the system.
"I am very pleased to have worked with Mayor Bob Duffy and area community leaders to secure this funding to improve public safety along the North Clinton and Lake Avenue corridors," stated Robach. "These are two areas in Rochester experiencing increased economic development which will bring much needed new job opportunities for Rochester residents. I look forward to this project helping to revitalize our community in terms of both residential and commercial development."
"I want to thank Senator Robach for his concern for our neighborhoods," said Duffy. "He continues to be an advocate for our citizens. This funding will help to expand this public safety initiative with the ultimate goal of revitalizing this great city."
