St. Paul, Minn., Expands Police Data Sharing and Dispatching System

Consortium expands to include five police departments sharing access to secure, cost-effective mobile data dispatch and data-sharing information

The St. Paul, Minn., Police Department has awarded Bio-Key an add-on to a previously awarded contract for PacketCluster Patrol Mobile software and services. The award allows the Roseville, M.N., Police Department to join the regional law enforcement consortium that currently includes Mounds View, New Brighton and Maplewood.

The St. Paul Police Department provides regional dispatch and data sharing services to its own officers within the city of St. Paul and also to neighboring jurisdictions. This award enables the Roseville MN Police Department to join the St. Paul regional law enforcement consortium that currently includes the towns of Mounds View, New Brighton and Maplewood.

The city of St. Paul chose BIO-key's PacketCluster Patrol because of its ability to support the consortium's requirement to seamlessly handle diverse communications infrastructures and protocols such as CDMA and GPRS and to scale to meet the growing consortium membership. Individual towns are able to choose their preferred public carrier and still benefit from the economies of scale and best practices developed cooperatively with their neighbors.

"For regional crime fighting to be successful, it is critical that all agencies, large and small, have access to the same dispatch, arrest information, and driver license data including driver photos." Mike Rohricht, a computer systems consultant with the St Paul Police Department. "The delivery of this vital information over a secure, silent mobile data communication network also enhances our officer safety which is a primary concern of all members of our command staff.
