Technology Leaders to Meet at PTI Congress in Chicago this spring

The role of technology in local government innovation

Technology leaders from cities and towns across the country will convene at the 2006 Congress for Technology Leadership, April 30-May 2, 2006 in Chicago. Presented by the Public Technology Institute (PTI), the theme for this year's Congress is the role of technology in local government innovation.

A major focus of this year's Congress program will be the role that technology plays in emergency management planning, preparation and execution. Congress presentations will include lessons learned from the hurricanes and natural disasters that struck the Gulf Coast states this past fall, as well as the role technology is playing in recovery efforts.

Through educational sessions, demonstrations and presentations, attendees will also examine how technology impacts local government management practices and service delivery; hear the latest on municipal and community broadband initiatives; learn how to better manage e-government and Web services; and explore how geospatial information systems technology can impact areas like public works and transportation planning, energy management and sustainable development.

An additional feature at the 2006 Congress will be the "Solutions Showcase," which will feature demonstrations of innovative technology programs and applications implemented by cities that that have won the prestigious PTI Technology Solutions Award. Solutions is an annual program that recognizes those local governments that have demonstrated how, through the use of technology, their governments have improved service delivery, reduced operating costs or created new revenue opportunities.

The National League of Cities (NLC) and the National Association of Counties (NACo) are co-sponsors of the Congress.

The 2006 Congress for Technology Leadership is taking place at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Chicago. The hotel is located adjacent to O'Hare International Airport and is a short ride to downtown Chicago.
