Texas Gov. Perry Awards $132,849 in Law Enforcement Grants

Includes $53,650 in awards for surveillance equipment

Texas Gov. Rick Perry recently announced the award of $132,849 in grants to local law enforcement programs. These grants are awarded under the federal Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program (LLEBG) and are distributed by the Governor's Criminal Justice Division (CJD).

"This block grant provides law enforcement agencies with additional funds to better protect Texans and ensure the safety of our communities," said Perry.

Through these grants, local law enforcement agencies are able to purchase necessary equipment and technology as well as provide increased support for drug court programs.

Each year, CJD provides more than $130 million in grants to help Texans at the forefront of the fight against crime. CJD funds a variety of programs for juvenile justice, crime prevention and victim service grants -- all aimed at making Texas a safer place.

The grants include:
  • $22,500 to the City of Winters to purchase a law enforcement patrol car.
  • $15,000 to the city of West University Place to equip three patrol cars with video systems to document traffic stops and other law enforcement activities.
  • $56,699 to Hill County to develop and implement a juvenile drug court program for youth offenders.
  • $38,650 to the city of Weatherford to purchase surveillance equipment that will aid law enforcement officers in properly documenting investigations.
