Everyone’s favorite robotics company, Boston Dynamics, has been sold to the Tokyo-based SoftBank Group, a multinational telecommunications and Internet corporation. Boston Dynamics who may be better known from its YouTube videos showing off four-legged, "dog-like” robots and two-legged android style machines. Terms of Friday’s deal — including when it might close — were not disclosed.

“Smart robotics are going to be a key driver of the next stage of the Information Revolution, and Marc [Raibert] and his team at Boston Dynamics are the clear technology leaders in advanced dynamic robots,” said Chairman and CEO Masayoshi Son in the release. I am thrilled to welcome them to the SoftBank family and look forward to supporting them as they continue to advance the field of robotics and explore applications that can help make life easier, safer and more fulfilling.”
 
According to the LA Times, Alphabet (Google's parent company) remains committed to pursuing robotic technology. A primary focus is connecting human-like motor skills — including hand-eye coordination — to machines so they can draw pictures and process images, speech and text.
