What does Wikipedia sound like?

Answer: a random symphony of dings and tones

Have you ever wished someone would create an application that registers all the changes made in Wikipedia and then assigns each corresponding edit a specific sound that varies by how in depth the change is? Well look no further than Hatnote.

Created by Stephen LaPorte and Mahmoud Hashemi using open data about edits occurring on Wikipedia, the two programmers created a visual and auditory way to experience how much information is being added or subtracted to the online encyclopedia. Every time an addition to an article is made, a bell sounds, while if something is deleted a string will play. Each tone gets deeper the more complicated the edit is. Each edit is accompanied by the article title and is assigned a color, signifying the type of editor: Green circles are anonymous edits, purple circles are bots and white circles represent registered users.
