How is Amazon’s Alexa appealing to Star Trek fans?

Answer: by adding "Computer" as a wake word

It might not be able to make you tea, Earl Grey, hot, but the Amazon Echo is letting users feel one step closer to being aboard the Starship Enterprise.

Amazon’s Alexa voice-activated virtual assistant has added a new wake word to its menu: “Computer.” While previously users could trigger the device by saying “Alexa,” “Amazon” or “Echo,” the new addition takes the smart home device even further into the future, potentially drawing fans of both the original Star Trek series, as well as its many spin-offs in which crew members activated the ship’s computer with the same word. The feature has already rolled out to some Echo devices.
