What kind of music do dogs prefer?

Answer: audio books

A study, recently published in the journal Applied Animal Behavior Science, showed that dogs at a rescue shelter preferred listening to audio books over pop music, classical music, music designed for dogs and no music. Some dogs preferred male voices, while others preferred female, depending on the dog's history. Researchers determined enjoyment by noting behaviors like reduced pacing, barking and standing, and more sleeping.

Animals vary in their enjoyment of music, Discovery News reported, and much of the theory centers around the animal's size, vocal range and heart rate. Because dogs vary in size, studying their preferences is difficult. One researcher speculated that larger dogs might be more receptive to human music than smaller dogs.
