The U.S. Navy and Russia have both used dolphins and sea lions to search for mines, submarines and other underwater objects, but in 2012, the U.S. began replacing the animals with robots.
Which nation’s military is looking to buy dolphins with perfect teeth?
Answer: Russia
The Russian Defense Ministry released a procurement document this week specifying a need for two female and three male dolphins between the ages of three and five that “display motor activity” and have perfect teeth. Russia wants the animals delivered to the Crimean front by Aug. 1, and have not specified what tasks these dolphins will carry out.
